Lineage of Dr Ganesh

  • Belongs to the family lineage of Great Composers Shri Kavikunjara Bharathigal and Shri Koteeswara Iyer, who was the first to compose krithis in all the 72 melakartha ragas
  • Also comes fifth in the sishya parampara of Saint Thiagaraja
  • Umayalpuram Krishna Bhagavathar and Umayalpuram Sundara Bhagavathar were direct disciples of Saint Thiagaraja
  • Their disciple Umayalpuram Swaminatha Iyer was the Guru of Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer whose son and disciple was Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam
  • Dr Ganesh is the disciple of Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam

Training in Carnatic music

  • Started training under Shri.P.Mahalinga Iyer at Thanjavur. And Vidwan.Thirukkarugavoor Shri.G.Srinivasaraghavan at the age of 10.
  • Had "Gurukulavasa" system of training from the Great Maestro Padmashri Sangita Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Shri.Santhanam for six years.
  • Presently, continuing his training under Vidwan Shri.O.S.Thiagarajan.
  • Also learnt Veena for a short period from Vainika Vidwamsini Smt.Ranganayaki Rajagopalan

Ardent disciple of Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam

  • It was a golden period for Dr Ganesh to learn from the Greatest of Greats in the field of Carnatic music Padmashri Sangita Kalanidhi Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam.
  • Dr Ganesh underwent a through traditional Gurukulavasam for over 6 years and none other than him got this rare blessing

As a concert performer

  • Had the good fortune to accompany his Guru Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam as Vocal Support from August 1987 till June 1992 including the one at Swami Dayananda Matriculation School, Manjakkudy on 23rd June 1992 which happened to be the last concert of the Great Maestro
  • Has started giving individual music concerts throughout India after 1992 and has been performing in leading music institutions in India and abroad
  • Had the golden opportunity to perform in the divine presence of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba at Prashanthi Nilayam, Puttaparthi on the eve of His 70th birthday celebrations
  • Is a regular performer and an artiste with grade ‘A’ in All India Radio and Doordarshan
  • Has performed concerts in countries like Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai & Sri Lanka

Special Concerts

  • Has given classical music concert with orchestration - an experimental one in June 1995 at Narada Gana Sabha which was widely appreciated.
  • Has given exclusive concerts based on themes - kritis of a particular composer, kritis of pre-trinity composers, Navavarana Kritis of Oothukkadu Venkatasubbayyar on Goddess Kanchi Kamakshi, etc.
  • In July 2002, for the International Conference of Siva Bhakthas held at Seerani Arangam, Chennai he gave a novel programme titled "SIVA HAARAM" wherein he rendered "OM NAMASIVAYA" in 108 ragas.
  • At the invitation of the Government of Tamil Nadu, Ganesh performed thematic tamil concerts on 20th, 21st and 22nd June 2010 during the cultural festival on the occasion of the World Classical Tamil Meet (Semmozhi Maanadu) held at Coimbatore. The concert featured only Tamil songs including Great Tamil poets Bharathiyar and Bharthidasan songs and some of the contemporary Tamil works. The 4000 to 5000 strong audience thunderously applauded the renditions by Ganesh especially the song “O Nenje..” a song on the Greatness of the language Tamil penned by Smt Seethala Sivakumar (Dr Ganesh’s elder sister) in the tune of masterpiece “Bho Sambho…” , appreciated by all VIP’s on stage.

Naada Haara Samarpana

  • On 17th March 2005, the Trust conducted a unique musical offering to Shri Raghavendra Swamigal at Mantralayam wherein more than 108 musicians – vocal, violin, veena, mridangam, ghatam etc participated in the event.
  • Clad in uniform attire the musicians simultaneously rendered the Pancharathna Kritis of Saint Thiagaraja sitting around the Moolabrindavana of Shri Raghavendra Swamigal and also conducted a namasankeerthana procession.
  • This has become an annual event in Mantralayam and every year the Trust conducts Naadahara samarpana on the birth day of the Great Saint
